It’s hard to imagine any wedding detail that could have escaped inclusion in the pages of Weddings for Dummies. How to build a chuppah, how to anchor a comb in the bride’s hair, who dances with whom and when–everything you ever wanted to know about getting hitched is right here. Fortunately, Marcy Blum and Laura Fisher Kaiser aren’t afraid to give an opinion or two (there’s a list of “Ten Tacky Temptations We Beg You to Resist”), but most of the information is entirely nonjudgmental. It’s best to have a much-married older sister plan your wedding, but if you have to do it yourself, this is the perfect book to tell you how.

  • The fact that the politically correct authors are for totally sissified bachelor parties made me sick (take all the guys, and learn to cook Chinese food, or go to a museum???) I can understand why it’s wise not to have strippers, but what a bunch of drivvle. The authors seem to have no sense of humor, and little appreciation for the male sport of getting together and having a damn good time, drinking a little, etc. etc. I skimmed the book in about 2 hrs., and came away learning next to nothing. It’s as though it was completely rushed to be put together, so as to compete with ‘Weddings for Complete Idiots.’

  • I got this book for my daughter. Her wedding is planned for November 2003. She is already calling me constantly with ideas from this book.

  • This book is marvelous help in preparing for your wedding day, laying out all the physical aspects of the wedding from A to Z. Sadly, this book doesn’t have much discussion on preparing your heart for the day. It is said that a woman looks forward to her wedding day, a man looks forward to the wedding night – both are important, but men often tend to downplay the day’s events as they focus on the evening.

  • I purchased this to get some ideas and tips on planning my own wedding. Shortly after i got it, I loaned it to a friend who is also getting married, and she liked it so much and used it so much that didn’t get it back until several months later! She really got some good ideas from it and was very grateful that I had loaned it to her. She was very glad she’d had it as a reference.

  • Sorry, but way too much detail, and not enough perspective. Some humor would help as well, as would some advice for the groom too!
